SEBON has granted permission to a listed company for the issuance of Green Bond on May 13 ,2025 The proceeds of this Green Bond will be allocated to environmentally friendly projects, under the provisions of Securities Registration and Issuance Regulations, 2073, while also supporting sustainable development initiatives and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. Furthermore, the utilization of the proceeds will adhere to the Nepal Green Finance Taxonomy, 2024, issued by the Nepal Rastra Bank, as well as the Green Bond Principles (GBP) of the International Capital Market Association (ICMA). SEBON has authorized the issuance of Green Bond amounting to Rs. five billion for seven years.
In recent times, there has been a notable increase in the global trend of developing capital markets as a means to advance a green economy. This approach reflects a growing recognition of the importance of sustainable financial practices in promoting environmental stewardship. With SEBON's recent approval of the issuance of Green Bond for the first time in Nepal, the role of Nepal's capital market has expanded and become increasingly pertinent. With this, it is anticipated that the contribution of this market will assist the government in achieving its time-bound targets, such as Net Zero Emissions and the Sustainable Development Goals.
